StocksandGreen
A native of the South American rainforests, this excellent climbing annual scrambles energetically on fences and trellis through summer and autumn. Its elegant, heart-shaped leaves are covered in a succession of large, sky-blue flowers that last for a single day. Flowers July to September. Planting soak seeds for 48 hours before sowing in situ during May or June. Sow 1mm deep, very sparingly, into prepared soil raked to a fine tilth. Thin out seedlings to 30cms once germinated. Alternatively, sow under glass March May, 3mm deep, in moist seed compost. Germinate at 20C on a warm sunny windowsill, or in a propagator. When all threat of frost has passed, prick out to individual pots and plant out. Aftercare provide support for this vigorous climber: poles, netting and canes all work well.
