StocksandGreen
This outstanding climbing annual, native to the rainforests of South America, will scramble exuberantly on fences and trellis through summer and autumn. Its attractive, heart-shaped foliage is covered in large, purple-blue flowers with a distinctive rosy star at the centre. Flowers July to September. Planting soak seeds for 48 hours before sowing in situ during May or June. Sow 1mm deep, very sparingly, into prepared soil raked to a fine tilth. Thin out seedlings to 30cms once germinated. Alternatively, sow under glass March May, 3mm deep, in moist seed compost. Germinate at 20C on a warm sunny windowsill, or in a propagator. When all threat of frost has passed, prick out to individual pots and plant out. Aftercare provide support for this vigorous climber: poles, netting and canes all work well.
