StocksandGreen
This cottage garden classic looks particularly effective against a sunny wall or fence, where its stately flower spikes will be protected from wind. It adds colour, texture and height to any planting scheme, and is highly attractive to bees. Flowers June to September. Planting sow under glass March April, placing seeds 2cms apart and covering lightly with soil. Germinate at 15-21C, and when large enough, transplant seedlings for hardening. Plant out in May/June, 30cms apart, handling seedlings by the leaves since stems are delicate. Alternatively, sow outdoors in April or May. Aftercare to ward off rust, apply a fungicidal treatment as directed. Cut back spent stems to avoid self-seeding. Eventual height & spread 240 50cms.
