StocksandGreen
The rich maroon flowers of this cottage garden favourite are carried on stately spikes that tower over a mass of handsome foliage. This is an unbeatable choice for planting against a sunny wall or fence, where there is shelter from string winds. Very attractive to bees. Flowers July to August. Planting sow under glass February April, placing seeds 2cms apart and covering lightly with soil. Germinate at 15-21C, and when large enough, transplant seedlings for hardening. Plant out from May, 30cms apart, handling seedlings by the leaves as stems are delicate. Alternatively, sow outdoors in April or May. Aftercare to ward off rust, apply a fungicidal treatment as directed. Cut back spent stems to avoid self-seeding. Eventual height & spread 200 60cms.
