This early-maincrop pea is admirably reliable and very productive. It grows heavy crops, with each pod containing as many as nine peas. It will benefit from the addition of plenty of manure or organic matter and performs best in full sun. Harvest July to September. Planting sow under glass February March, in modules, pots or guttering, 4-5cm deep in seed compost. Once germinated, a cane or stick will be needed for the seedling to climb up. Acclimatise before transplanting outside. Alternatively, sow in situ March July, when the soil will have warmed up. Sow in flat-bottomed drills, 5cms apart. Plant two seeds per sowing and thin out the weaker seedling. Aftercare use netting to protect from birds when the seedlings appear and provide support for the plants to climb. Eventual height & spread 60 10cms.
