This is a true heritage variety from Italy, and it produces intriguingly sculptural lime-green heads that are packed with nutty flavour and have a firm, crisp texture. When the main head has been cut, the stems can be left to grow a succession of smaller heads. Harvest July to December. Planting sow from January July (or January February under glass) to provide a enjoy a succession of heads. Sow seeds 1cm deep into modules, transferring the seedlings to their final position about 6 weeks later, when theyre large enough to handle. Any grown under glass should be hardened off before planting out at 60cms between plants, and 60 80cms between rows. Overwinter any September October sowings in a cold frame. Aftercare keep generously watered to prevent bolting. This variety is delicious fresh but can also be blanched and frozen. Eventual height & spread 45 60cms.
