Magnesium is essential for the production of chlorophyll. Without the right levels of magnesium, foliage will turn brown and wither. Through the application of Epsom Salts, magnesium levels are raised enabling the growth of healthy plants. Tomatoes and houseplants are particularly susceptible to magnesium deficiency. Early signs include yellowing between the veins of older leaves. Epsom Salts can be used in their granular form or diluted to be applied as a liquid fertiliser. Used as a base dressing, Epsom Salts should be worked into the soil and if required, watered in. Alternatively, dilute with water and apply to leaves with a foliar spray or watering can. Epsom Salts can also be added to other specialist liquid feeds. Care must be taken when applying as a granular fertiliser to ensure no residue is left on leaves or stems.
