This double-flowered cornflower is a magnet for bees and butterflies, so it makes a fine companion for vegetables and herbs in the garden. Its most effective when planted in bold drifts. Its long, sturdy stems make it ideal for cutting, too. Flowers May August. Planting sow outdoors March May, 3mm deep in drills that are 30cms apart. Alternatively, sow August September for early flowers in the following year. Thin the seedlings to 15cms apart. Alternatively, sow in trays or pots, covering lightly, and overwinter for planting out in the following year. Aftercare dont feed, as this just stimulates more foliage at the expense of flowers, and deadhead regularly to extend the season. Support if necessary. Eventual height & spread 110 40cms.
