A half-hardy annual thats valued for its deep purple-violet flowers and intense, heady fragrance. Its a magnet for butterflies, bees and other pollinators and its splendidly versatile try it borders, patio pots and even hanging baskets. Itll flower cheerfully all summer long. Flowers July to September. Planting sow indoors February April, in moist seed compost. Cover seed with fine layer of compost and keep at 15-20C to germinate. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when big enough to handle, holding them by a leaf and not the stem. Harden off in cooler conditions before planting out 25 cm apart, when all risk of frost has passed. Aftercare pinch out growing tips and deadhead regularly to extend flowering. Eventual height & spread 45 45cms.
