Thriving in poor soil and full sun, this much-loved aromatic perennial is a kitchen essential that also offers considerable ornamental value. It bears a mass of petite pink flowers in summer, and these are irresistible to bees. Flowers May to July; harvest April to July. Planting sow under glass February April in moist, seed compost, covering with fine layer of soil. Germinate at temperatures of 10-15C. When theyre large enough to handle, transplant seedlings and plant out 20cmsapart when all danger of frost has passed. Alternatively, sow in situ April May, in well-drained soil in shallow drills 30cms apart. Pinch out the growing tip of plants to encourage side shoots. Aftercare to keep a bushy habit, trim back lightly after flowering. The leaves can be used fresh or dried. Eventual height & spread 30 30cms.
