StocksandGreen
Intensely purple verging on black the ruffled, papery flowers of this flamboyant annual are borne on tall, almost leafless stems. Hugely attractive to pollinators in the garden, it also provides an exquisite accent in a vase of cut flowers. Flowers May August. Planting from February to April, sow under glass in trays or modules onto the surface of moist compost. Sparingly cover with seed compost or vermiculite. From March May, sow outdoors in shallow drills, no more than 3 4mm deep. Plant out, or thin, to 15cms between plants. Sow under glass during August and September and overwinter for stronger plants the following spring. Aftercare dont feed, as this just stimulates more foliage at the expense of flowers, and deadhead regularly to extend the season. Eventual height & spread 110 40cms.
