This delicious vegetable is a late winter treat, at its best when few other greens are in season. It produces generous crops of tender purple heads, turning green when steamed, with a yielding texture and a subtle flavour. This cut-and-come-again crop is a biennial. Harvest March May. Planting sow into pots or a well-prepared seedbed, 13mm deep, with 30cms spacing, March April. When seedlings have at least four leaves, transplant carefully so as not to disturb the roots. Plant in final locations at 30cms spacing. Protect from birds and insects with netting and keep well-watered. Aftercare encourage growth of numerous side shoots by cutting out the main head. Eventual height & spread 90 50cms.
